Taehee Kim

I first saw Taehee Kim’s artwork in 2023 at the Inclusion Art Show at Heritage Hall, produced by posAbilities. Her pieces were showcased by the Here & Now Community Society, and I was instantly captivated by her unique style – bold, striking, and full of energy. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of featuring Taehee’s work in two group exhibitions, one at Outsiders and Others and another off-site, where it was met with great enthusiasm. Her art bursts with excitement, vibrant colors, and a deep love for animals – especially cats. Taehee’s artwork has a way of bringing joy and sparking happiness in everyone who sees it. Now, we’re thrilled to present her first solo exhibition. Yuri Arajs / Artistic Director and Curator

Taehee Kim, a 23-year-old artist based in Port Moody, British Columbia, was born in Seoul, South Korea, and moved to Canada with her family in her early teens. She graduated from Heritage Woods Secondary School and now spends her days at the Here & Now Community Society, drawing inspiration for her artwork.

Beginning her artistic journey just four years ago, Taehee captures the essence of nature—cats, birds, trees, flowers, and more—through vibrant drawings filled with joy and innocence. Her art invites viewers into a world of calm and positivity, reflecting her cheerful nature.

Diagnosed with autism, Taehee faces challenges in verbal and written communication, but her drawings speak for her. Her daily walks in the park or along the beach, where she observes nature, provide the peaceful moments that fuel her creativity. Through her work, she shares the healing power of nature, bringing smiles and serenity to all who experience her art.

As outsiders to this land—the land of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm / Musqueam , Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw / Squamish,

and səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ / Tsleil-Waututh  Nations — we continue to acknowledge their stewardship of these lands

since time immemorial.

We acknowledge the colonial history that has devastated these lands and peoples,

and we are committed to learning from the past to help create a shared future of observation, reconciliation,

and understanding. As visitors to this land, our gallery is committed to supporting the development of local Indigenous peoples and communities.

In gratitude and with ever-evolving knowledge, we look forward to honest and open dialogue between Indigenous peoples and the outsiders who are here to create, learn, and prosper together.
