Outsiders and Others Art Society is a volunteer-run organization that works with artists who identify as outsider, self-taught, LGBTQ2S+, BIPOC, having experienced homelessness, living with disabilities or having mental health experiences.

 

Every month we present a new exhibition in our main gallery in the Downtown Eastside at 716 East Hastings Street and once every two months in our window gallery in downtown Vancouver at #100-938 Howe Street. We present both solo and group exhibitions, and for many of the artists we work with, this is the first time they are exhibiting their artwork in public or in a gallery setting.

We create professional opportunities for artists that are typically not available to them. These opportunities include curated exhibitions, public artist discussions, workshops, one-on-one creative consulting, and access to the only "outsider art" book library in Vancouver. Additional support includes framing assistance for an exhibition when a financial barrier exists, we pay all featured artists an exhibition honourarium, and artists receive 75% of all art sales.

Many of the artists we have worked with have received public recognition in all types of media including the Vancouver Sun, Vancouver Guardian, Georgia Straight, Preview, Galleries West, and CBC Radio.

 

As an emerging organization that opened in June 2020, we are constantly struggling to keep our doors open but have been able to do so because of our dedicated volunteers and people like yourself who care about the work we are doing and see the value it has in our community.

Your sponsorship help us pay for everything which includes artist honourariums, administrative costs, marketing, and everything else it takes to keep our doors open. Your sponsorship will also enable us to grow and serve more artists which is vital because there is a public who is hungry for affordable non-traditional art.
