February 1 - 25

Reception February 4 from 2-5pm

A tattoo is defined as an indelible mark fixed upon the body by inserting pigment under the skin, and the earliest evidence of tattoo art dates from 5000 BC. Across time and cultures, tattoos have many different forms and meanings. Since then, tattooing has been a become very fashionable and there is a huge community of people who working as tattoo artists. And just like most artists, they work creatively in a variety mediums.

This exhibition will show the other creative sides of 3 practicing tattoo artists. beyon wren moor, Lev Sibilla, and Marcel Xin.

beyon wren moor is a 2spirit indigenous painter, writer, and tattoo artist from Pimicikamak Cree Nation in northern Manitoba and currently living in Massachusetts. They have a varied painting and tattooing style that oscillates between traditional formline painting and cultural tattooing, to more figurative illustrations and contemporary flash tattooing.

Lev Sibilla is a self-taught mutli-media artist and professional scavenger, collecting materials in the margins and transmuting them into three-dimensional diary entries, ornaments, and tableaus. Born in Oregon in 1999, his work is shaped in part by his experience in the new century as a diasporic Jew, existing ungendered, and on the autism spectrum.

Marcel Xin is a trans first generation immigrant from beijing who grew up in Victoria, and very recently moved to Vancouver. They are a self/community taught in all my artistic practices, and feels incredibly grateful to be able to work as a tattoo artist and share their art with others despite studying a different field in post secondary. They majored in philosophy and minored in art history, and aspires to become a librarian.
